A. R. T. S.". . .

provides treatment for substance abuse & addictive behaviors. It is a comprehensive outpatient treatment program with medically supervised detoxification from alcohol and drugs. Suboxone and Subutex are utilized to withdraw from opiates, when it is appropriate. We are a twelve Step based program and are designed as a four to eight week process, depending on your individual progress and needs. The complete program includes the following components:

Initial Week-

Assessment-Detox-Stabilization & Pre-treatment Orientation

This phase includes daily monitoring of vital signs and withdrawal symptoms. A 24 hour supply of meds will be given to a designated support person that has agreed to monitor and remain with the patient for the duration of the detox phase. An individual treatment plan will be suggested and monitored, by seeing either your physician, nurse, or counselor at least once a week for a review of your current status in treatment.

Weeks 2--4   Intensive Outpatient

This includes group counseling, education & support three times a week. Individual consultations, with the physician, nurse, or counselor are scheduled each week for treatment planning and continuation of care.

Weeks 5--6   Extended Outpatient

Continue group sessions twice weekly.

Weeks 7--8 (++)    Aftercare

One group session per week.

About the staff

Each member of the treatment team is personally committed to a twelve step program as the foundation for recovery from an addictive lifestyle.

Dr. Charles Shaw is a former director of St. Luke’s Chemical Dependency Unit in both Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona. He originated the first addiction rotations for medical interns and residents in Arizona and received an award from the American Medical Society for Addiction Medicine for his contributions in this field.

Barbara Neil and Valorie Wise both completed their addiction training at Sierra Tucson Center for Addictive Behavior in Tucson, AZ in 1990, and have continued to work in the field since that time.  Barbara has 20+ years of experience working with addicts and their families. Valorie has 40+ years of experience in various nursing fields and has worked in both mental health and chemical dependency for the majority of that time.

Attendance at local twelve step support groups such as AA, NA, GA, CA, Al-Anon, ACA, etc.  is mandatory while attending treatment. Random UA's are requested regularly or when relapse is suspected.  Pre-treatment screening & assessment is necessary to insure the appropriateness 0f placement in an outpatient program. Referrals are made immediately if an inpatient hospitalization is needed for increased medical supervision.
